About us

Asia Sewing Machines has served the Johannesburg CBD and surrounding areas since 2006, helping factories, tailors, schools and home sewers keep machines working properly. We handle sales, installation, repairs, servicing and parts with practical advice and local support from a team that knows the job.

About us

A Johannesburg CBD team built around daily sewing needs

Asia Sewing Machines is based in the Johannesburg CBD, where sewing work happens at speed and there is no room for guesswork. From busy workrooms in Fordsburg and Mayfair to school sewing rooms in Soweto and small factories in Germiston and Pretoria, we help customers choose, install and maintain equipment that fits the work they actually do.

We have been operating since 2006 under the leadership of Mandla Ndlovu, with a team that understands both the sales side and the workshop side of the business. That matters when a customer needs more than a machine in a box. They need the right set-up, the right attachments, the right thread and a plan for servicing after the machine starts running.

We work with industrial and household sewing machines, computerised embroidery machines and fusing presses. We also supply spares, attachments, threads and haberdashery, so a customer can sort out the full setup in one place instead of chasing small parts across town.

How we work with factories, tailors, schools and home sewers

Every customer comes to us with a different level of experience and a different pace of work. A school may need simple, durable machines with clear training. A tailor may need a reliable machine for alterations and repairs. A factory may need multiple units, correct timing and a proper workroom layout. A home sewer may need a machine that is easy to use, stable and affordable to keep in service.

We start by asking what the machine will do, what fabric it will handle and how often it will be used. If a client is working through load-shedding, limited space or a hot workroom, that changes the advice we give. We do not push unnecessary extras. We rather match the machine and accessories to the actual workload and budget.

  • Industrial machine sales for production work and heavy daily use
  • Household machine sales for home sewing and light to medium work
  • Embroidery machine support for set-up, testing and training
  • Fusing press supply and servicing for pressing and finishing lines

Sales backed by installation and practical aftercare

Buying the machine is only the first step. We also handle machine installation, motor conversions, timing adjustments, embroidery setup and workroom planning. A new machine can underperform if the table is not level, the motor is mismatched or the operator has not been shown how to use it properly.

That is why our sales process stays linked to the workshop. Lerato Mokoena leads sales, Yusuf Patel oversees workshop repairs, Naledi Khumalo handles embroidery support, Willem van Wyk carries out field service work, Anele Dlamini manages parts and stores, and Farah Ismail helps customers through the enquiry process and follow-up support. It is a small team with clear roles, which keeps the handover clean.

When we install a machine, we look at the space around it, power supply, table height, lighting and the path operators will use through the room. In busy premises across Alberton, Randburg and the CBD, a good layout can save hours every week.

Workshop repairs and on site service that keep production moving

Machines slow down for many reasons: worn parts, poor oiling, dust, broken needles, incorrect tension, damaged wiring or timing that has drifted out. We deal with those faults every day. Some machines are better brought into the workshop for a full check. Others can be repaired on site when time matters and the problem is straightforward.

Our service work includes routine servicing, workshop repairs and on site repairs for customers across Gauteng. We also do timing adjustments and motor conversions where a machine needs to be brought back into proper working order. If a customer is running a small factory or training room, regular servicing is often cheaper than waiting for a full breakdown.

  • Routine servicing for industrial and household machines
  • On site repairs for urgent faults and production stoppages
  • Workshop repairs for deeper mechanical and electrical work
  • Timing, feed and motor checks for consistent stitching

Parts, attachments and consumables from a single local source

Keeping a sewing operation going means having the small things ready before they run out. Needles, bobbins, belts, feet, threads, guides and other attachments all affect output. When a machine is missing one small part, the whole line can stop. We keep a practical range of spares and haberdashery on hand, and source additional parts when needed.

Anele Khumalo and the stores team help customers identify the correct items before they spend money on the wrong size or type. That is especially useful for older machines, mixed workshop fleets and imported units with parts that are not easy to match. We work carefully here, because a wrong fitting can cause more damage than the original fault.

For customers in Fordsburg, Mayfair and Soweto, being able to source parts locally saves time and transport costs. For clients in Pretoria or Germiston, clear part identification before collection or delivery helps avoid repeat visits and wasted downtime.

What we value in every job we do

We value straight advice, neat work and equipment that keeps running after we leave. Sewing businesses depend on consistency, and that means we focus on the basics: correct set-up, proper servicing, clear training and honest guidance about what a machine can and cannot do.

We also value learning. Operators change, production lines change, and machine needs change over time. A workroom that started with two household machines may grow into a small production space. A school may need stronger equipment after the first term. A tailor may add embroidery to an existing service. We help customers adjust without starting over.

Our approach is simple: look at the work, solve the fault, keep the machine usable and make sure the customer knows how to carry on. It is practical service, not fancy talk.

Serving Gauteng from the CBD with local understanding

Being based in the Johannesburg CBD helps us stay close to the areas that rely on us most. We regularly work in Johannesburg CBD, Fordsburg, Mayfair, Soweto, Germiston, Pretoria, Alberton and Randburg. Each area has its own rhythm, from trading floors and alteration shops to school programmes and factory production.

We understand the realities that come with operating in Gauteng: power interruptions, busy transport routes, tight delivery windows and workplaces that cannot afford long pauses. That is why our support covers more than the machine itself. We help with planning, set-up, servicing, spares and training so the customer has a better chance of keeping work on schedule.

From first enquiry to final handover, we aim to keep the process clear and manageable. Customers contact us through the enquiry form on our contact page, and we take it from there with the same practical approach we bring to every machine.
